Hermit crab
Hermit crabs are not closely related to true crabs. Hermit crabs are quite commonly seen in intertidal zone for example in tide pool.
Most species of hermit crabs frequently utilize the shells of sea snails, Marine gastropod mollusks. As the hermit crab grows in size, it has to find larger shell and abandon the previous one.
There are about five hundred known species of hermit crab in the world, most of which are aquatic and live in saltwater at depths ranging from shallow coral reefs and shorelines to deep sea bottoms.
In Lakshadweep Islands we can see different type of crabs & Hermit crabs. It was one of my interesting subject to observe these types of special creatures. So I took few photos & movies about hermit crab & other intertidal fauna.
